As quickly as it arrived onto the floor…it was gone! Our first experience with a Madsen Kg271 was short, but we were impressed!

The Bike: The Madsen has quite a smart design. 20” wheel in the back making the bike stable, strong and quick. The front end has a low step over to allow for maximum range of fit, and it still looks and rides like a regular bicycle. Easy and quick acceleration from the small wheel to balance that precious load. It’s also equipped with disk brakes! Extra stopping power to slow the cargo, especially in our wet Victoria climate. They’ve also equipped the bike with an extremely sturdy double kick stand, whether the kids are climbing in or you’re loading up the groceries, the bike is going no where.

Bucket or Rack? This is ultimately you’re choice. The rack is basically an extended pannier rack. Carry lots of bags, or customize your own cargo system. Flat deck? Side saddle? It’s up to you. The bucket is very versatile. It comes with a removable bench seat with seat belts for the young kids…or old kids. Or, load it up with whatever you please. They are also working on a lid for the giant bucket, hopefully available soon.

The Price Well, you can buy this bike online for $1299 USD and deal with the shipping, and duties across the border…..or…..you can get it from us! for about $1600 all in, including free tune-ups for the year. A small fee when you consider a bakfiets can go for around $3000, very high quality…and worth it, but not everyone’s cup-o-tea. Overall, its a great ride for the price….want to have a look at one….well, its already gone! But, if you really want to we can arrange a viewing of the one we had….here are the excited cargo bicyclists below!
